Introduction and biography Vernon Prior, Author of “The Language of Business Intelligence”

 

With almost 40 years’ experience in intelligence operations and knowledge management, Vernon Prior (working as Prior Knowledge) is a leading practitioner in the field. He has presented competitive intelligence and knowledge management seminars and workshops in many countries, including Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.



Vernon currently conducts regular seminars with the Singapore Institute of Management and several leading training companies. He has worked with Bond, Deakin, Monash, and RMIT Universities; the College of International Business; the Institute for International Research; the International Quality and Productivity Centre; the CEO Institute; International Enterprise Singapore; the Australian Trade Commission (AusTrade); the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation; the ASEAN-EC Management Centre (Brunei); the Singapore Ministry of Defence; Etisalat Academy (Dubai); Telekom Malaysia Training Centre, the Queensland Department of State Development & Innovation; and with many major companies (who prefer not to be identified) on intelligence and knowledge management programmes.

A prolific author, his book, Smart company: finding and managing business intelligence (published in 1991 and currently out of print), describes how to manage intelligence for competitive advantage. He has had more than 200 articles published internationally, in newspapers, journals, magazines, and on the Internet. His comprehensive glossary of terms used in intelligence and knowledge management, The Language of Business Intelligence, is available online under the auspices of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) at www.scip.org under Resources: Language of BI. The glossary is also available on the Knowledge Board website www.knowledgeboard.com under Knowledge Bank: Library, and on several other lesser-known sites, as well as being incorporated into Comintell’s Knowledge Xchanger Version 3.1 software.



Vernon has a post-graduate Diploma in Librarianship and Information Science (DipLib), he is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, manufactures and commerce (FRSA), a Fellow of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (FSCIP), a member of the Knowledge Board, and Founder of the Society of Knowledge and Competitive Intelligence Professionals Australia (SCIPAust). Vernon is also a very grateful member of the Caterpillar Club.

Operating as Prior Knowledge, Vernon Prior has conducted seminars and workshops on competitive intelligence and knowledge management throughout Asia, Australasia, the Middle East, and South America. Vernon is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, manufactures, and commerce (FRSA), a recipient of the SCIP Fellow’s Award (FSCIP), and a SCIP Member since 1990.
