Ontology originally a branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being, the term is currently used to describe a vocabulary of terms and associated definitions or rules covering a specific domain. Thus an ontology may be regarded as a Database together with associated Information about the categories or concepts that exist in a domain, what properties they have, and how they relate to each other. Optimization is a scientific approach to solving problems, the purpose of which is to improve on the subjective aspects of decision-making; thus improving operational efficiency. It calls for the mathematical formulation of the problem and an explicit statement of the desired objectives.
