Description
The Competitive Intelligence Manager (CI Manager) will support an Integrated Management Effort by providing competitive intelligence pertaining to targeted areas of Eastman's product lines. Competitive Intelligence is defined as significant information about Eastman's major competitors, customers and suppliers and the competitive environments in which Eastman operates that is gathered in a legal and ethical manner. Integrated Management includes working with multiple businesses and supporting organizations.

Responsibilities
• Manage the collection, analysis and dissemination of competitive intelligence about Eastman's major competitors, customers and suppliers in targeted areas using legal and ethical means.
• Manage and grow the CI source network including the evaluation of sources.
• Plan and lead research of secondary information to answer specific questions about competitors, customers and suppliers that have a significant business impact.
• Work with the business strategy development teams involved with the targeted areas to learn of specific, significant CI needed by the strategy teams.
• Maintain ongoing dialogue with the strategy managers including periodic oral and/or written briefings of latest findings including recommendations on further actions needed relating to strategy development.
• Provide competitive intelligence training to employees as needed.
• Coach and encourage employees within Eastman organizations involved with the targeted product lines to gather competitive information about competitors, customers and suppliers as they perform their primary duties and to send collected information to the CI Manager or CI Specialist.
• Lead meetings and workshops of employees involved to analyze competitive intelligence, recommend Eastman responses, and provide follow-up to business managers and strategy teams.
• Maintain a CI repository of gathered intelligence and analyses accessible by involved employees.
• Maintain an integrated supply/demand balance for targeted products by consolidating supply/demand balances from the pertinent business organizations.
• Continually benchmark CI efforts against other organizations' CI efforts internally and externally, documenting "best practices."
• Develop and maintain CI skills at a high level of proficiency.
• Maintain contacts in the CI field and contract with CI consultants when needed for special projects.

Qualification
Specific Skills/Experience Desired
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or other technical background
• Experience conducting competitive intelligence research and analysis
• Ability to manage multiple projects with a structured approach & to shift focus as needs are identified
• Excellent judgment needed for analysis as well as timing on dissemination of information
• Strong networking & collaboration skills - ability to exchange ideas and develop working relationships
• Self-motivated, initiative to follow-through and trouble-shoot complex issues
• Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable recommendations
• Strong skill level in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint
• Strong Internet searching skills and an inquisitive mindset
• Ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in verbal and written communications and in presentations to all management levels
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to think strategically
• Strong numerical skills: ability to analyze numbers and understand and translate into trends and be able to quantify opportunities
• Knowledge of chemical industry and Eastman product lines a plus
• Demonstrated knowledge of business intelligence techniques and processes, industry dynamics, and commercial functions a plus
• Experience with strategy development a plus
